HERO

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

What does that word mean to you? One of the meanings of the word ‘Hero’ refers to “characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice.” I’m sure not many of us can call ourselves a ‘hero’.

Our wish children face life challenging situations each and every day. It is remarkable to see the overwhelming courage and will these precious ‘little people’ have.

I want to let all our wish children know how much we admire and respect what they go through. To everyone here at Kids Wish Network our wish kids are Our HEROES!

Time to think of others

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

My daughter works with a lady whose perfectly healthy 24-year-old son passed away last week as the result of a terrible automobile accident. He was married and had a young son. With three daughters of my own, I can’t begin to imagine the ultimate loss this woman is going through.

Most of us go through our daily lives and never stop to think about the struggles that so many people are going through. Many of our wish families have a child living with a life-threatening illness each and every day. All my fellow associates here at KWN work very hard to help make these children’s wishes come true and to forget about their illness, if just for a few hours or days while they are on their wish!

As we begin the season of Thanksgiving and the giving and receiving of gifts, let us not forget the most precious gift of all…our children!

It’s Flu Season!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Well, everyone knows the flu season is here and it certainly hasn’t forgotten us here at Kids Wish Network. For me personally it definitely hit home when my nine-year-old daughter came down with the flu last week! My husband and I were very worried about her but we got her to the doctor within the first 24 hours and on the proper medicine and she is doing just fine now. Kids Wish Network was wonderful in allowing me the time to be home with her.

When I came back to work last Friday everyone was asking how she was doing. My co-workers here at KWN are awesome! We make a great team and all work together in granting wishes for all those brave children who don’t always get better like my little girl was able to do.

Keeping Up The Employee Morale

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I started working at Kids Wish Network over 3 ½ years ago and I always enjoy coming to work.  I can’t say that for every job I’ve ever had however!

As the Office and Personnel Administrator in the Human Resource Department I get to work directly with all of our great KWN associates and Managers taking care of new hires, training, benefits, payroll, volunteers and many other tasks.  Though my position does not have any direct involvement with our brave wish children and their families, I love hearing all about the wonderful wishes taking place at any given time!

One of the ‘fun’ responsibilities I also have is to help keep ‘employee morale’ up.  I am the official “Morale Committee”. We now have a ‘vending’ area to help raise money for the associates’ fund.  It’s amazing what a piece of chocolate will do for you in the middle of the afternoon to get you back on track .  We also have fun events such as pot luck lunches (we have some awesome cooks here), pizza parties, and hot dog lunches. Last May we held our first annual KWN Family picnic.  As you can tell, food keeps us motivated!

Every Friday is ‘goodie’ day at KWN where I bring in a variety of items for all the associates.  They really look forward to that…again, more FOOD!  Oh well, whatever it takes to make them happy I say.

Kids Wish Network is truly like one big happy family with only 27 employees.  We may be small but we do the work of a much larger company with the hundreds of wishes we grant every year and all of the other wonderful programs we have.
